My new obsession is Tango dancing.
Not only is it cool and sexy, tango is all about the high heeled shoes and dresses. I bought a slinky black dress for inspiration towards my new diet/exercise plan. Eventually, I want to be able to feel good wearing a really low back tango dress –that’s gonna take a few months.
In addition, Tango Dance shoes are a lot different than regular swing/ballroom dance shoes: The best dance shoes are high heels (puts the woman into a better position, with heels off the floor. The high heels are just there in case you need a quick moment of support) and they should have slick leather bottoms instead of soft suede, unless you only plan on dancing in a studio with nice floors. I do have several pairs of tango shoes that I ordered a couple of years ago, in anticipation of getting into tango dancing. They came from Argentina – can’t find the re-seller at the moment – I think I got them off an ebay auction originally. There is one place on ebay still that sells shoes from Argentina. I highly recommend ordering Argentinian dance shoes – those guys really know their stuff! The quality of the materials (super soft leathers) and workmanship is definitely worth the wait.
Another wonderful thing about learning to Tango – there are tons of men!!!! That’s right, it’s unbelievable how many leaders there are – nothing like swing or country, where you wait to catch one of the few available leaders – I’d say the lead to follower ratio in those dances are 1/2. So imagine my surprise and delight when I showed up at Tango class, and there were a bunch of extra guys! Same thing goes for social tango; there seem to be an abundance of leaders — at least so far. I’m so psyched!
